One Million Outcasts

[An Essay, 663 words, 27/05/2018] There were about a million Rohingya in Myanmar before the police and the army of the State began cracking down on the Rohingyan community in October 2016. The authorities were reportedly trying to drive out “insurgents” among the thousands of poverty-stricken, scared and helpless humans who are often described as “one of the most persecuted minorities in the world”. This act, an effective ethnic cleansing comes after nearly half-a-century of persecution against the Rohingya. A coup in 1962 ensued military rule in Myanmar and the junta rule took a hard line against the Rohingya. In 1982, a citizenship law was enforced which did not recognize Rohingya as one of the 135 legally recognized ethnic group thereby depriving them of basic citizenship of the state restricting medical assistance, education, and employment. Water Contamination

[An Essay, 252 words] Dealing with water contamination is and always has been a major hurdle for developing societies. 70% of the earth’s cover being water and almost 70% of us being water, polluted water is definitely a concern and obviously not something we would like to have, now would we? Water contamination comes in all forms - from floating plastic bags to toxic chemical waste.  The water we drink and use in our day to day life comes from lakes, ponds, rivers and oceans. Many of the small-scale factories in the industry nowadays, release toxic wastewater by-product into these water bodies, untreated. Agricultural runoff ( filled with insecticides and pesticides) are also to be held responsible. However, these two reasons are just the tip of the iceberg. The main culprit here is untreated sewage.
